We know that clinical symptoms of allergic rhinitis are improved by immunotherapy but it is very difficult to manifest improvements scientifically.
This study was performed to know which immunological parameters were clinically useful to evaluate the effect of immunotherapy. We measured teh clinical symptoms and the changes of serum level of the specific IgE antibody in the patients with allegic rhinitis who had received immunotherapy.
The results were as follows.
1. The ratio of male to female was 1.5:1, and mean age was 18.0 years old, and the peak incidence among the age groups was the 2nd decades.
2. Ninety percents of the patients were improved clinically in 24months after beginning of immunotherapy.
3. The index of specific IgE antibodies decreased to 99.74±04.64% of pretreatment level in 1 year of immunotherapy and to 73.50±21.98% in 2 years of immunotherapy.
