The study was to propose the lesson plan for traditional Korean music appreciation aimed on enjoying traditional Korean music and making it a way of life for 8th graders with increasing the interest and understanding of traditional Korean music. Appreciation on music doesn't need prior knowledge and difficult theory. In addition, it's an activity to be directed firstly in many areas of the music and an basic behavior not to be separated into musical experience such as singing, instrumental music and creation
Traditional Korean music which includes the spirit and history of our nation can be called the core of the culture. However, today traditional Korean music became difficult, tedious and unfamiliar to us. The reasons why traditional Korean music was unfamiliar to us is that the opportunity to learn traditional music was lack compared to western music and school also didn't educate traditional Korean music properly.
This researcher focused on appreciation that was the basis of traditional Korean music and easy to learn, explored effective teaching-learning methods applying curriculum integration. In the body, the meaning and importance of traditional Korean music appreciation education, the effect of traditional Korean music appreciation education on youth(middle students) people and the implication of integration education in the current curriculum were investigated.
For specific teaching-learning methods research, self-directed learning and problem-solving that we now have oriented were improved and many scholars' theory on measures for integrated teaching plan led to the growth of the whole person was examined. Ten integration types of R. Fogarty among them were treated in depth.
Chosen music and reference music that corresponded to the area of traditional Korean music appreciation in 8 textbooks in 8th grade class by the 7th education curriculum revision for selecting appreciation music were analyzed and their frequency was investigated. As a result, Sujeocheon(court music), Suryongeum(scholar music) and Shinawi(folk music) could be addressed. The specific lesson plan applying affiliated, shared, integrated among 10 integration types of R. Fogarty to Korean language, art and physical education based of three music songs.
As a result, the conclusions were as follows:
First, traditional Korean music education in Korea needs obligations and accountability of the teacher so teachers should not neglect the effort for their boundless affection and broader understanding in traditional Korean music.
Second, it's necessary that students who are familiar with western music make traditional Korean music feel more easy and appreciation instructional methods which can do various experience step by step, systematically to reach efficiently are required.
Third, the appreciation lesson plan by integrated learning between textbooks had an effect on attracting students' interest and concern rather than only that of traditional Korean music, traditional Korean music's concept learning was focused and it was worth trying various integrated teaching methods of other textbooks.
Any music, only once learning can not be better. If you listen to music repeatedly, have interest in it and if you have interest in music, want to know it and like to learn it later. Thus, if a variety of teaching methods to increase the interest and understanding on traditional Korean music are suggested, when students grow up, they find and enjoy it for themselves and furthermore traditional Korean music will settle as life music.
Finally, better teaching methods will be developed and research will be continued by applying the researches on teaching-learning method of traditional Korean appreciation to practical instruction and by modifying and analyzing them depending on actual education.
