노년기 사회통합의 가능성 = 사회참여와 사회적 안녕감 간의 관계에서 지역공동체의식의 매개효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 노인의 사회참여와 사회적 안녕감 간의 관계를 검토하고, 두 변수 간 관계에서 지역공동체의식의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 또한 이들 관계가 전후기노인집단에서 동일하게 나타나는지 탐색적으로 분석하였다. 대도시 거주노인 296명을 대상으로 일대일 면접에 의한 설문조사를 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전후기노인의 사회참여 수준에서의 차이는 없었지만, 사회참여활동 양상에서 질적인 차이가 제시되었다. 둘째, 전체 노인대상의 분석에서, 노인의 사회참여와 지역공동체의식 및 사회적 안녕감 간의 정적 관련성, 지역공동체의식과 사회적 안녕감 간의 정적 관련성이 제시되었다. 또한 Sobel"s Z-test와 Bootstrapping을 실시한 결과, 지역공동체의식의 매개효과는 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 검증되었다(부분매개효과). 셋째, 전후기노인집단 별 분석에서, 전기노인의 경우 지역공동체의식의 완전매개효과가 검증되었다. 반면, 후기노인의 경우 사회참여 및 지역공동체의식은 사회적 안녕감을 각각 높이는 효과가 있었지만, 사회참여와 지역공동체의식 간의 유의미한 관련성은 제시되지 않았다. 본 연구결과를 통해, 노년기 사회통합을 위한 방안으로 지역사회를 거점으로 하는 사회참여 활성화를 제안하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of the current study was to examine the relationship between social participation and social well-being in later life, and to investigate the mediation effect of one"s sense of community(SOC). We conducted a survey of 296 older adults(60+) living Busan Metropolitan city and compared two age groups(60-74, and 75+). Analyses indicated that: (1)despite no differences in social participation, there were qualitative differences between young-old and old-old groups; (2)across the entire sample, social participation increased SOC and social well-being(SWB). SOC was associated with more SWB, and both a Sobel"s Z-test and bootstrapping analysis supported a significant partial mediation by SOC; (3)comparing age groups a full mediation effect of SOC was found in the young-old group; however, there was no statistically significant relationship between social participation and SOC, despite the positive relationships between social participation and SWB, and between SOC and SWB. These results suggest that the local community as a social world play an important role for older people, and that promoting social participation in the community, may improve social integration in later life.
