This study was performed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of D. decumbens extract on skin using RAW 264.7 cells. The anti-inflammatory effects of D. decumbens extract were evaluated by measuring cell viability, gene expressions, and nitric oxide (NO)/prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production on RAW 264.7 cells. The anti-inflammatory effects of D. decumbens extract were elucidated by analysis of IL-1α/IL-1β/IL-6/TNFα gene expressions and NO/PGE2 production. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) showed that D. decumbens extract decreased the mRNA level of IL-1α/IL-1β and IL-6. Additionally, PGE2/NO detection also revealed that D. decumbens extract exhibited anti-inflammatory properties. The results suggest that D. decumbens extract contains an anti-inflammatory components. Further study on the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of D. decumbens extract would not only facilitate the development of cosmeceutics but also pharmacological treatments.
