      Exterior surfaces of buildings stand out due to the physical properties of architectural materials. Recently, the effect delivered by material properties is becoming more important as social needs to architecture are moving from visual-centric experience to tactile and sensory experience. In this regard, the scope of representing the sensory space has also been widened. Moreover, plastic materials are being recreated by 20th century’s high-tech materials and reborn by a variety of processing and process-related methods. It enhances various functions of plastic materials and gives unique characteristics to building surfaces so that it can embody complex design patterns. In this study, we analyzed the application methods of plastic and compared its using patterns in the surface of contemporary architecture. In the contemporary architecture, the plastic used for building surfaces enables a new ways of expression by a unique processing method which is different from previous way utilizing traditional materials. As a result, the range of surface material selection is expanding when new materials are applied to construction. This research aims to understand the relationship between the performance of the new materials on the surface and the expressive properties of the surface, focusing on the various functions of the new material. And also, this study focused on the aesthetic representation of the new plastic materials to study the sensory expression observed in the building surfaces by classifying the use of new building materials. As a conclusion, the study defines new expressions and sensational effects of the aesthetic effect of the new material.

In this regard, the scope of representing the sensory space has also been widened.
