This study was performed to investigated the effect of Korean berries such as sour cherries (Prunus. cerasus), black raspberry (Rubus coreanus) mulberry (Morus alba) on proliferation and adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells. Obesity is major obstacle for improving health. Therefore, the therapeutic approach using phenolics from fruits has been proposed as a novel strategy for preventing obesity. In this study, Korean berries (sour cherries, black raspberry and mulberry) inhibited lipid accumulation during adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocyte. Specially, sour cherries and black raspberry were attenuated dramatically lipid accumulation dose-dependent manner. Also, these berries inhibited preadipocyte proliferation and consequent differentiation within the first 3days of treatment. These data indicate that the anti-adipogenic effects of Korean berries may derived from anti-proliferation. Taken together, these results suggest that Korean berries (sour cherries, raspberry, mulberry) inhibited preadipocyte proliferation and adipocyte differentiation. From results, some of Korean berries may prove to be valuable natural plant in the treatment of obesity.
