``Ak-geuk`` refers to a Korean music drama formed autogenously in 1920`s. Ak-geuk is a popular genre of art, so considered it doesn`t have any relationship with Korean opera as a classic genre. Ak-geuk, however, had a greate effect on the formation of Korean Opera. Ak-geuk gave influence upon Korean opera with various aspects. First, Ak-geuk grew the trained manpower to produce Korean opera, such as composers, singers, authors of the text, directors, and stage designers. Secondly, it built a type of audience of Korean opera through introduction of the narrative structure in music drama and western opera repertoires. Thirdly, it became a first step toward National opera through production of some music drama with national characteristics in materials and musical elements. The influence of Ak-geuk leads continuously to Korean Opera, Korean Musical, National Ga-geuk of North Korea, and so on.
