한국 유권자의 당파적 정체성과 정서적 양극화

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정서적 양극화에 대한 연구는 국내에서 늘어나고 있으나, 그것의 측정방식의 제약은 이론적 · 경험적 차원의 제약을 야기한다. 본 연구는 정서적 양극화와 구분되는 당파적 정체성의 직접적인 측정을 통해, 이를 바탕으로 정서적 양극화의 다양한 측면을 분석함으로써 유권자 수준의 양극화에 대한 경험적 증거를 제시한다. 특히, 당파적 정체성과 정서적 양극화의 결정요인을 살펴보고 양자의 정치적 · 비정치적 효과를 분석한다. 분석결과에 따르면, 첫째, 한국 유권자들의 상당수가 당파성을 자신의 중요한 정체성 중 하나로 인식했다. 둘째, 당파적 정체성은 정당일체감과 정치이념의 강도가 높아질수록 강해지는 반면, 정서적 양극화는 당파적 정체성, 정치이념, 그리고 쟁점선호에 대한 강도가 높아질수록 증가했다. 셋째, 정치적 결과로서 정치참여의 수준은 당파적 정체성이 강해질수록 높아지는 반면, 비정치적 결과로서 결혼태도나 특성평가로 표현된 당파적 편향성은 정서적 양극화가 증가할수록 심화되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

We examine partisan identity and affective polarization among South Korean partisans. Using online survey data which include diverse measures that were not employed by prior studies in Korea, we analyze determinants of partisan identity and affective polarization, and their political and non-political consequences. Our findings show that, first, a significant number of Korean partisans perceive their parties as one of their important identities. Second, while partisan identity is positively related to the strength of party identification and political ideology, affective polarization is related to the strength of partisan identity, political ideology, and issue preferences. Third, political participation is positively associated with partisan identity, whereas marriage attitudes and trait ratings are associated with affective polarization.
