이화학당과 이화여자전문학교를 중심으로 본초기 한국 여성작곡가 연구 = A Study of Early Korean Women Composers of Ewha Haktang and Ewha Collage

The reason that Ewha-Haktang (1886-1924) and Ewha-College (1925-1945) used firstly to mention when Korean modern women musicians and composers are discussed is that Ewha-Haktang was first Korean women educational institute founded by a western protestant missionary. And then, their specialized musical education had been gradually accomplished with the establishment of curriculum. As the switchover from Ewha-Haktang to Ewha-College program, the concept about specialized study had become more clearly. The major in composing was established in 1936. As first student Sun-Ae Kim in 1941 was graduated, it was the beginning of the generation of Korean women composers. The purpose of this article as a historical approach for large spectrum of the study for each women composer is to investigate about musical activities of Korean women from that the western music was introduced and educated to that first women composer was appeared in Korea.
