There are many, well-met music teaching materials/skills and teaching approaches of ones native soil. The contents, concepts, and music teaching skills give directions and goals to his/her own teaching. Very specific media and teaching standards affect children or students mind. Our somewhat dynamic teaching methods use auditory, visual, analytic, fine motor activities in carefully prepared teaching plans. Since 1990, out nations curriculum have had aims at teaching Korean traditional music more than ever through handing-down childrens song singing, Korean traditional rhythm study and listening Korean music.
For a long time since the introduction of Western music, traditional music tended to be neglected, seldom appearing on class room topics. But Korean folklore, folksong, and secular music offer affluent study materials with such qualities as pentatonic melodies, accented dynamics peculiar to our soil, and variated tempos, and tone colours. Recently, a tendency has been growing in Korea to give traditional music its rightful place in music learning process.
We may gather good melodic, rhythmic materials, and textual vocabulary from various Korean music, and we use them for movement activities or improvisations. Teachers and professor have responded to class activities by offering those materials to their children or students with a variety of application of such media as speech, instrument performing, listening, and movement.
The adoption of these materials schoolwide as an innovative decision made by teachers and professors, has proved to be successful in the teaching scenes. This paper introduces music examples treatable in real teaching/learning.
