도덕적 상상과 도덕적 판단의 연관성 = The Connection of moral imagination and moral judgment

To sympathize is to understand other's sentiments. We sympathize by means of the imagination. To become aware is at once for the perceptions to be thought by understanding and for it to have the sensible contents of thought. The imagination makes it possible to connect the perceptions with the thoughts and thus to become aware of something. The moral imagination functions to explore a variety of possibilities of life and to examine and correct one's evaluation of the possibilities The considerations of situations are at the heart of moral judgments, and about a variety of possibilities of life by means of moral imagination. The moral principles or categories are objectively applied in the classical moral judgments. But the prototypes are the standards of moral judgments by means of moral imagination .The prototypes are always refined through the examinations of them with new experiences. The moral imagination is the capability to make evaluation and judgment. The authentic moral education should have learners make moral judgments by means of moral imagination.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

공감은 다른 사람의 정감을 이해하는 것이며, 그것은 상상을 통해 이루어질 수 있다. 인식한다는 것은, 감성적 직관이 오성에 의해 사고되어져야 하고 오성적 사고는 감성적 사고 내용을 가져야 함을 의미한다. 그 둘을 서로 연결시키는 것이 바로 상상이다. 도덕적 상상은 삶의 가능성들을 탐구하는 기능과 자신의 가능성들에 관한 평가를 검토하고 수정하는 기능을 수행한다. 도덕적 판단은 상황에 대한 고려가 핵심이어야 하고, 그 고려는 도덕적 상상을 통해 다양한 삶의 가능성들을 고려하는 것이다. 고전적인 도덕적 판단은 도덕적 원리를 객관적으로 적용하는 것이며, 그것은 범주를 적용하는 것이다. 도덕적 상상을 통한 도덕적 판단은 원형을 기준으로 이루어진다. 원형은 새로운 경험들을 통해 검토되기 때문에 개선될 수 있다. 도덕적 상상은 삶의 가능성들 내지 도덕적 행위의 원형들을 평가하고 판단하는 능력이다. 도덕교육은 도덕적 상상을 통한 도덕적 판단을 시행하게 하는 교육이어야 한다. 그 대표적인 모습은 문학(특히 소설들)을 활용하는 도덕교육이다.
