A Study on the Reality of Chorus Lead
and the Effective Rehearsal Technique

Chorus is the genre of music in which life and emotion is alive because the voice of human is used as a means of the music and each one of all the choir members can express his or her mind through it. Therefore, chorus should convey a deep impression and the life force of spirited chorus as well as musical expression and technical skills to the audience through the unified mind of the members. The conductor should combine a good character, the ability to conduct the chorus effectively and rehearsal technique to make it possible. However, in reality, considerable conductors reveal the troubles in showing the upright picture of leaders above-mentioned.
This thesis clarifies the purpose of this study by raising the question on the big two general issues arisen often in the choir. First, one of the problems is the inner conflicts of the conductor with the choir members which are created from the fault in his or her personality. Secondly, the other problem is the chorus group that came into the crisis caused by repeated failures of rehearsal.

These problems have been received careful process of study, and the great literature of chorus and practical preceding researches served as a good reference for the solution to the problems and alternative in the process of the study. Some conclusions were drawn as a result of the study and brief results of my research work are as follows.
First, it is the importance of interpersonal skills and relationship. Secondly, it should be noted that the professional course of education and training are necessary for the right chorus lead. Lastly, the conductor should have his or her own ability and effective rehearsal technique with universal validity.

합창은 생명과 감정이 살아 있는 음악의 장르이다. 그 이유는 사람의 목소리를 도구로 하기 때문이며 단원 한 사람, 한 사람의 마음이 표현되어지기 때문이다. 그러므로 합창은 음악적인 표현과 기술 뿐 만아니라, 단원의 마음을 통일하여 살아 움직이는 합창의 생명력과 감동을 청중에게 전달하여야 한다. 이것을 위해 지휘자는 올바른 인격을 갖추어야 하고 효과적인 합창지도의 방법과 리허설테크닉을 겸비해야 한다. 하지만 현실적으로 적지 않은 지휘자들이 앞에 언급한 올바른 지휘자의 모습을 보여주지 못함으로 문제점을 들어내고 있다.
본 논문은 합창단에서 빈번히 일어나는 일반적인 문제를 크게 두 가지제기하며 본 논문의 목적을 밝히는 바이다. 첫째, 지휘자의 인격적인 문제로 인한 단원들과의 내면적 갈등이고 둘째, 지휘자의 반복되는 리허설 실패로 인한 위기에 처한 합창단의 문제이다. 이 문제의 긍정적인 해결방안과 대안을 위해서 실험적인 선행 연구와 저명한 합창문헌을 참고하여 연구를 진행해 왔으며, 연구과정을 통해서 몇 가지의 결론을 도출해 낼 수 있었다. 간략한 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 대인관계의 중요성이며 둘째, 올바른 합창지도를 위해서 전문적인 합창교육의 필요성을 강조하는 바이다. 셋째, 합창지휘자는 보편타당한 자기만의 효과적인 리허설테크닉과 노하우를 가지고 있어야 한다.
