국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 조세희의 "난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공"이 노동자 문제를 다룬 전경과 교육, 젠더, 환경, 자본 축적의 문제를 다룬 후경의 구조를 이루어져 있음을 밝혔다. 이러한 전경과 후경의 구조는 곧 자본주의 경제의 구조이자, 그간 비경제로 치부했던 젠더와 환경의 영역까지 경제의 영역으로 포괄해야 함을 의미하는 것이다. 요컨대 조세희는 산업 자본주의 사회의 자본가/노동자라는 이분법이 아니라 자본주의 경제성장의 구조적 측면에 주목한 것이다.
󰡔"난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공"의 관념성은 자본주의 경제성장에 대한 작가의 이러한 인식 방법을 이해할 때, 그 구체적 함의가 드러나게 된다. 작가는 성장의 구조가 주체의 욕망을 자본으로만 수렴시키며, ‘악’을 ‘선’으로 인식하는 일상을 만든다고 판단했다. 이런 일상의 구조와 대비되는 세계가 난장이 아버지가 꿈꾸는 ‘사랑을 강요하는 사회’이다. 보통 1970-80년대는 정치 민주화에 대한 욕망이 강했던 시대로 평가하지만, 이 시기에는 경제성장에 대한 욕망도 널리 공유되었다. 조세희는 일상을 대하는 감각과 직결되는 경제성장에 대한 욕망에 깊은 관심을 가지고 "난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공"을 썼다. 1980년대 대학생 독자의 회고가 증명하듯, 조세희는 평범한 우리가 어떻게 자본주의 체제에 익숙해지는가를 느끼고 생각하기를 희망한 것이다. This article reveals that Jo Se-Hee's 󰡔The Small Ball Shot Up by a Dwarf󰡕 is structured with a foreground that deals with workers' issues and a background that deals with issues of education, gender, environment, and capital accumulation. This structure of foreground and background is the structure of the capitalist economy, and it means that the areas of gender and environment, which have been dismissed as non-economic areas, must be included as the area of the economy. In short, Se-Hee Cho focused on the structural aspects of capitalist economic growth rather than the dichotomy of capitalists/workers in industrial capitalist society.
The specific implications of the conceptual nature of 󰡔The Small Ball Shot Up by a Dwarf󰡕are revealed when one understands the author's way of perceiving capitalist economic growth. The author judged that the structure of growth converges the subject's desires only into capital and creates a daily life in which ‘evil’ is recognized as ‘good’. The world that contrasts with this structure of daily life is the ‘society that forces love’ that the dwarf father dreams of. The 1970s and 1980s are usually evaluated as a time when the desire for political democratization was strong, but during this period, the desire for economic growth was also widely shared. Jo Se-Hee wrote 󰡔The Small Ball Shot Up by a Dwarf󰡕 with a deep interest in the desire for economic growth, which is directly related to the sense of dealing with daily life. As the reminiscences of college readers from the 1980s prove, Jo Se-Hee hoped that ordinary people would feel and think about how we become accustomed to the capitalist system.
