The purpose of this thesis is to find out how to use creative discretion activity classes which are made to improve the uniform school education in the seventh education curriculum and develop teaching materials for math class activities. It is also made to make students understand the concepts and principles of math and convey the message that math is not just boring and difficult but it is interesting.
The subjects are 80 middle school third graders in Busan. The period was three months and the classes were run in small groups and focused on activities. The findings are as follows.
First, these classes provided students with a desire for self-directed study through the use of activity focused diverse manipulation activity materials. They also introduced students to new experiences which they couldn't have had during regular math classes.
Second, these classes nurtured the students interest in math through diverse activities which are based on math principals and theories. They also improved mathematical communication among students solving their tasks through group activities.
Third, this study made a case for developing original math classes by observing mathematical phenomenons related to everyday life and applying these results to math classes.
