공공갈등의 심각성이 정부신뢰에 미치는 영향: 2010~2019년 10년 동안의 설문조사를 중심으로 = Effects of Perceived Public Conflicts on People’s Trust in Government: Ten-year (2010 to 2019) Results from National Survey

Public conflicts in modern societies cause serious social divisions and problems, and there is a growing demand for government responsibility and role in conflict management. Many studies suggest that the government can build public trust by resolving public conflicts, but few empirical studies on this have been conducted. By using survey data gathered from 2010 through 2019, this study found that people’s perception on public conflicts coincides with their trust in government over time. Secondly, the regression analysis on each year’s data demonstrates that perceived public conflicts is a significant predictor of trust in government while controlling for participants’ demographic variables, and its effect remains significant in the survey period of Lee Myung-bak, Park Geun-hye, and Moon Jae-in governments.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 사회에서 발생하는 공공갈등은 심각한 사회분열과 혼란을 초래하고 있으며, 이에 대한 정부의 책임과 역할에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 공공갈등의 해결에 있어서 정부신뢰를 강조하는 이론적 연구들은 많지만, 이에 관한 실증적인 연구는 많지 않다. 본 연구는 2010년부터 2019년까지 10년 동안 매년 정기적으로 실시한 설문조사자료를 분석하여 공공갈등에 대한 심각성 인식과 정부신뢰 간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 해당기간 동안 공공갈등이 심각하다고 인식할수록 정부신뢰는 낮아지는 경향이 발견되었다. 둘째, 이러한 경향은 각 연도별 회귀분석에서 응답자의 연령과 이념성향 등 인구통계학적 변수를 통제했을 때도 유의미하게 나타났으며, 이명박, 박근혜, 문재인 정부를 거치는 기간 동안 일관되게 유의미했다.
