迂軒 鄭彦儒의 生涯와 詩世界 = Life and Poetry of Wooheon Jeong Eon Yoo

국문 초록 (Abstract)

  이 논문은 조선후기 문인 정언유(1687∼1764)의 생애와 시세계를 검토하기 위해 집필된 것이다. 迂軒은 名門의 후예로 태어났으나 그가 태어날 무렵 그의 집은 여러 대에 걸쳐 직계 조상이 과거에 급제하지 못하여 서서히 몰락해 가고 있었다. 迂軒의 유년시적에 대한 기록이 거의 남아있지 않아 入仕이전 그의 행적에 대해서는 자세히 알 수 없으나 四六文과 功令文字에 정통하였다는 〈行狀〉의 언급으로 미루어 경세에의 포부를 지니고 과거 준비에 매진하였던 것으로 판단된다. 과거에 급제한 후 迂軒은 주로 牧民官과 言官의 직분을 담당하였는데, 牧民官으로서 迂軒은 자기희생적인 애민의식과 뛰어난 행정력을 바탕으로 탁월한 治積을 남겼으며, 言論을 담당하고 있을 때는 是非를 분명히 가려, 자신의 안위를 돌보지 않고 직언을 서슴지 않았다. 필사본으로 편성된 ？？迂軒集？？에는 570首의 詩가 수록되어 있는데, 본고에서는 작가의식에 따라 ‘경세에의 포부와 애민의식’, ‘사물에 대한 관심과 개방적 사고’, ‘가정적 불행과 자연동경’으로 분류하여 검토하였다. 우헌의 詩世界를 검토한 결과 특별히 주목되는 것은 인간의 일상과 밀접한 관련이 있는 다양한 사물을 작품의 소재로 수용하여 이를 통해 현실주의적 작가의식을 투영하고 있다는 점과, 儒家의 禮敎的 엄숙주의에서 벗어나 情志를 진솔하게 표현하고, 道ㆍ佛과 관련이 있는 詩語나 詩想을 거리낌없이 수용하는 개방적 사고를 드러내고 있다는 점이다. 迂軒의 詩世界가 내포하고 있는 이러한 특징은 詩의 소재가 되는 사물을 주관적 관념 표현의 도구로 인식하고, 또 詩作에 있어서 감정의 절제를 통해 심성도야를 의도하였던 조선전기 사림파들의 문예의식에서 벗어난 것으로 판단되며, 실학파 문인들의 문예의식과 기식이 통하는 것으로 생각된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

  This essay is to explore the life and poetry of Jeong Eon Yoo (1687∼1764) in the late Chosun dynasty. He was born into a noble family, which was gradually falling, as none of his direct ancestors for generations passed the civil service exams. Since there is no record on his childhood, it is impossible to know his life before he passed the civil service exam. According to Haejang, however, he had a good knowledge of Sarukmun and Gongryeongmunja, which implies that he prepared for the exam to work for the government. After passing the exam, he served mainly as a governor and an official in charge of the press. As a governor, he made outstanding achievements with his self-sacrificing affection for the people and excellent administrative ability, and being in charge of the press, he distinguished between right and wrong fairly, did not follow his own interests, and dared to speak plainly. In Wooheonjip, compiled in manuscripts, there are 570 poems, and this study examined his poems by classifying in terms of his ambition for public services and affection for the people, interest in objects and open-mindedness, and family hardships and nostalgia for nature, from the perspective of the writer’s recognition. As a result of investigating his poetry, it is noteworthy, in particular, that he projects realistic poetic recognition through a variety of objects closely related to daily lives of human being, expresses stillness straightforwardly, departing from the regulatory formalism of Confucianism, and shows open-mindedness to adopt poetic words or sentiments associated with Taoism and Buddhism without hesitation. These characteristics of his poetry are considered to be in line with the literary attitude of writers of the realistic school, being different from the literary attitude of the Sarim society in the early Chosun dynasty, which saw poetic objects as a tool of expressing subjective ideas and wrote poems as a means of controlling emotion and cultivating personality.
