음운론적 유형론과 한국어 = Phonological Typologization and the Korean Language

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글에서는 한국어 연구의 세계화를 위해 필요한 연구로 유형론을 제안하면서 말소리와 관련된 유형화를 논의한다. 지금까지의 음운론적 유형화를 살펴보고, 그 가운데 제시된 한국어의 음운론적 유형을 검토한다.
음운론적 유형화는 소리 부류의 함의 관계를 바탕으로 이루어진 유형화, 등시간성 가설에 의한 음절 언어와 세기 언어로의 유형화, 형태·통사적 매개변수가 함께 쓰인 혼합적인 유형화, 음절 또는 음운론적 단어의 길이를 일정하게 유지하는가에 따른 유형화, 음장 언어와 음절 마침 언어로의 유형화, 돋들림과 운율 단위에 따른 유형화, 보편적 제약의 위계에 의한 유형화 등 다양하게 시도되었다. 그 가운데 한국어의 유형적 평가도 더불어 이루어졌다. 한국어는 등시간성 가설을 따른다면 음절 언어로, OV 어순을 지닌 약강조 언어로, 단어 리듬의 특성이 함께 나타나지만 음절 리듬에 치우친 언어로, 음절 마침 대립이 없는 음장 언어로, 어휘적으로 세기나 피치 강세가 없는 언어로 평가된다. 하지만 분석 자료와 매개변수의 적절성에 대한 문제가 제기되며, 보다 나은 음운론적 유형화를 위해서는 음운론적 특성들의 연관성에 대한 연구가 필요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Suggesting that a typological approach is required for the inter-national study on the Korean language, this paper discusses the phonological typologization. Various typological approaches and the phonological types of the Korean language in them are examined.
Typological approaches are distinguished in terms of their parameters: a typological classification based on the implicational relationships of sounds, a dichotomy between syllable-and stress- timed languages according to the isochrony hypothesis, a phono- logical typologization with morphological and syntactic parameters, a distinction between syllable-rhythm and word-rhythm languages, a classification into a quantity language and a syllable cut langu-age based on syllable cuts, and a typological approach based on prominence and prosodic unit.
The phonological type of the Korean language is estimated variously as a syllable-timed language, an iambic language, a syllable language, a quantity language, and a non-stress and non- lexical pitch-accent language according to typological models. But there are problems with data and parameters. For a better pho- nological typologization, it is necessary to find out relationships between phonological characteristics.
