Systemic response to disaster is of great interest in Korea these days. Triage tags help prioritise patient’s treatment based on the severity of the illness and help distribute limited resources in time of disaster. However, Korea has yet a standardized triage tag system. Thus, we aim to propose a new type of triage tag system to prepare and drill for future disaster and mass casualty incidence. Previous studies comparing different types of triage tags were reveiwed. Then the most commonly used triage tags (MET-TAG and SMART tag) were analyzed for comparative advantage. Superior and inferior aspects of these triage tags were analyzed to achieve cost advantage, differentiation advantage and create superior value. The newly designed KAT-TAG was beneficial in that it has liquidity to re-triage, has space for serial documentation of follow up vital signs and treatment and has cost advantage and simplicity. Although future simulation studies are needed to determine the ease of use and efficiency of the KAT-TAG, we would like to suggest the usage of KAT-TAG as a potential triage tag system for Korea.
