Because many modern industrial systems are required to guarantee reliability, availability and safety, they are fault tolerant by having redundant structure. Hardware redundant structure can be divided into static, dynamic and hybrid redundancy. As microcontroller’s performance to price ratio is rising rapidly, many systems can incorporate redundant structure. This paper presents a predictive smoothing voter using dual exponential smoothing method based on dynamic redundancy in order to ensure the system’s fault tolerance for reliability. The performance of the proposed system is compared with those of traditional static algorithms through simulation and experiment.
