남부 방언의 단모음 체계 변화에 관한 연구 = A study on the Change of Vowel System in Southern Dialects

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 ≪한국방언자료집≫과 ≪지역어 조사 보고서≫, ≪지역별· 세대별 언어 다양성 조사≫의 자료를 바탕으로 하여 동남 방언과 서남 방언의 단모음 체계 변화를 방언 분포를 통해 살피고, 이와 관련한 음운 현상을짚어보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 동남 방언에서는 ‘ㅡ’와 ‘ㅓ’의 변별이 1930년대생 화자에게서부터 가능해지기 시작하였고, 서남 방언에서 ‘ㅔ’와 ‘ㅐ’의변별은 1970년대생 화자들부터 불가능해졌다는 사실을 발견하였다. 서남방언 단모음 ‘ㅟ’, ‘ㅚ’가 이중모음으로 실현되는 것은 이보다 조금 더 늦게일어났다는 사실 역시 알 수 있었다. 이러한 변화들을 통해 두 방언권의 모음 체계는 결과적으로 7모음(/i, E, ɨ, ə, a, u, o/) 체계로 수렴하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 모음 체계의 변화와 함께 고모음화 및 모음조화에도 일정한변화가 나타난다는 사실을 확인하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The study examines the changes in the vowel systems of southeastern and southwestern dialects based on data from ≪한국방언자료집≫, ≪지역어 조사 보고서≫, and ≪지역별·세대별 언어 다양성 조사≫. The purpose is to investigate vowel system changes through the distribution of dialects and to explain the related phonological phenomena. It was found that the distinction between ‘ㅡ’ and ‘ㅓ’ in southeastern dialects began to be possible from speakers born in the 1930s, while the distinction between ‘ㅔ’ and ‘ㅐ’ in southwestern dialects became impossible from speakers born in the 1970s. It was also noted that the realization of the diphthongs ‘ㅟ’ and ‘ㅚ’ as monophthongs in southwestern dialects occurred slightly later.
Through these changes, it was confirmed that the vowel systems of the two dialect areas ultimately converge to a 7-vowel system(/i, E, ɨ, ə, a, u, o/).
Additionally, it was confirmed that there are certain changes in vowel harmony and high-vowelization along with the changes in the vowel system.
