The recent report and recommendations of the House of Representatives Standing Committee of Australia on environment, recreation and the arts inquiry into tourism in Antarctica (May, 1989) request the Australian Government to provide funds to enable studies to be undertaken relating to the development of a conservation strategy for the Australian Territory. It is also confirmed that Antarctic Infrastructure Study will be formulated to develop and assist overall study. The Antarctic Infrastucture Study, which will be performed by private sector, has the following objectives : 1. Establish information base ; 2. A survey of infrastucture environmental protection, concepts, technologies, management, and their conservation implication ; 3. Define natural resources ; 4. Provide technical advice to the Australian Government for the implementation of resource management policy and plans. Furthermore, it is strongly believed that the study will be a threshold of transition by adoption tourism as a positive tool to enhance conservation and international cooperation in Antarctica.
