The smoke control system was constructed in high-rise building to secure a safety evacuation route for
evacuees on fire. Also, the elevators are considered to be an essential evacuation method in high-rise building.
However, when the elevator is moved, the flow inside the elevator shaft flows into the vestibule to affect the
performance of smoke control system.
Therefore, in this study, the effect of elevator movement on the pressure difference between vestibule and
living room was experimentally investigated. In the case of experimental apparatus, the 3 stories model building
was instructed applying sandwich pressurization method by performance based design and was analyzed to effect
of elevator movement when the model elevator speed is 0.6m/s. As a results, when the elevator is moving on
0.6m/s, the pressure in vestibule increased by about 1Pa. Through the experimental study, the elevator
movement was affected the performance of smoke control system and the effect of elevator movement should
be considered before designing the smoke control system.
