This study aims to examine the effects of the Group Counseling Integration Program for Students of internet addiction tendency who were at a Vocational High School in G city. The Group Counseling Integration Program was conducted from October 12 to November 12, 2009.
This study was nonequivalent control group non-synchronized pre-test and post-test design in quasi-experimental research. The participants were 37 and were divided into an experimental group 18 and a control group 19. This program which was consisted of 10 sessions programs applied twice a week over 5 weeks. The research tools included self-determination scale and internet addiction scale. The data were analyzed by percentage, χ² test, paired t-test, t-test and ANCOVA using SPSS/WIN 14.0 program.
The results of this research were as follows:
As a result of testing for self-determination in comparison between the experimental group under Group Counseling Integration Program and control group, it was found that there were significant differences in self-determination between two groups(F=5.99, p=.020).
As a result of testing for internet addiction in comparison between the experimental group under Group Counseling Integration Program and control group, it was found that there were significant differences in internet addiction between two groups(tb=-2.53, p=.016).
In conclusion, the Group Counseling Integration Program will be an effective nursing intervention for improving self-determination and reducing internet addiction.
The following suggestions might be offered on the basis of the results of this study.
It is necessary that we should study further on the continuous effects of the Group Counseling Integration Program for adolescents of internet addiction tendency in community.
It is necessary to estimate the lasting intervention effects of the internet addiction Group Counseling Integration Program.
It is necessary to educate the parents living together with them and to develop the program for educating parents.
