This research aims to propose a framework for developing a zone-level people counting system in buildings using surveillance cameras. The framework is as follows: select the appropriate surveillance cameras to be used to count people for each building area unit, develop a people counting algorithm based on object recognition and object tracking model implementation, and validate the performance of people counting model by applying it throughout an actual building. Obtaining such count information of each building, floor and room can be effectively utilized when delivered to rescuers in the event of building disasters.
