Objective: Dental characterastics found on panoramic radiography may be valuable in human identification. The purpose of this study is to evaluate effectiveness of personal identification with dental characteristics shown in panoramic radiography.
Method: Data were collected dental characteristics through panoramic radiographies of 200 randomly selected patients who visited military dental clinic. Dental characteristics were classified into 8 types by turning the informations into codes.
Result: Diversity was 99.19% using both maxillay and mandibular dental characteristics. It was 96.87% on maxilla, and 97.67% on mandible. It was 91.33% on right maxilla, 92.51% on left maxilla, 92.47% left mandible, and 93.21% right mandible.
Conclusion: Human identification using dental characteristics through panoramic radiographies is effective. Therefore, it is expected to be applied more economically and practically in identifying a large number of dead soldiers.
