PRACTICALLY speaking, the Christian life is made up of two things, doing and suffering. Savonarola, dying at the stake in the Great Square at Florence, cried out to his fellow-Dominicans, "Courage, brethren! our life lies in doing good and suffering evil." Now, both these are hard matters. Doing good is hard when self has to bleed for it; and hard it is to suffer evil.
