      The built environment is considered to have major places susceptible to violent crimes such as rape or forced indecent act. To deal with such prevention of potential crime has been focused on urban & architecture in built environment since 1960s. Jane Jacobs was the first researcher by her book which gave a title ‘Death and Life of Great American Cities, 1961’. The next researcher was Oscar Newman who wrote a book ‘Defensible Space, 1972’. The following relevant researches have continued in the United States, England and the other countries. But there are still no appropriate researches that are usable and feasible to prevent potential crimes by built environment design. Therefore this study surveys crime prevention in urban & architecture by analysis of precedent researches, and to make find the differences between related precedent researches. Finally, this study aims to search feasible methods which are able to prevent crimes through environmental design in urban & architecture.
