Yi Sangjeok(°]%) was a pupil of Kim junghee(and also Chinese official interpreter. He made official visit to China twelve times and had relationship with literary artists and scholars, through the activities he brought many kinds of Chinese all ages paintings and writings and epigraph to Joseon society. As Chusa`s disciples, he not only carried on the trend of exchanges betweenthe two countries but approached in a very holistic way. However, it was not because of his painting style but because of his position as envoys, which gave him much chance to associate a host of Qing literati. While inheriting his master`s exchange trendof paintings, Yi introduced a new Qing painting style. First of all, he showed off splendid and sensuous styles including Handamdo leisurely conversation painting) and Ahjipdo(I1, elegant assembly), which were mostly painted by OhJun(). Meanwhile, Yi was also ranked as one of Qing literary painters and established a social intercourse with Tang Yifen() and witnessed artworks from Dai (*). In addition, he had a cultural relationship with Songhu school (ih) including Cheng Tinglu() and Cheng Zuqing(ll) while playing a pioneer to introduce various painting trend of Qing dynasty. His active propensity and practice contributed to a rapid influx of Shanghai painting trend as well as Qing`s Sawang(N)painting style during the late enlightening period. Nonetheless, there is no enthusiastic reaction among Joseon artists about Qing painting styles introduced by Chusa`s disciples, since they were highiy affected by Kim Jeonghee`s style in the 1850s. Base on that his activities, new painting tendencies brought into Joseon painting in the later 19th century. That is one of the main idea and value of this research.
