The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the Enhanced Milieu Teaching on the ability related to spontaneous language and functional communication. The experiment was conducted in a structured intervention room setting for Enhanced Milieu Teaching. The participants of this study were four children with autistic disorder. For this study, a multiple probe design across participants was used to identify a potential functional relationship between independent and dependent variables. The independent variable was the implementation of the Enhanced Milieu Teaching embedded in the spontaneous language and functional communication situations. The dependent variable of this study included the frequency of the exact spontaneous language and functional communication emitted by the participants. The results demonstrated that the Enhanced Milieu Teaching would be effective enough to increase participants’ spontaneous language and functional communication for the participants. In addition, the effects of the Enhanced Milieu Teaching maintained in the follow-up post-intervention probe phase.
