野堂 柳赫然의 生涯에 대한 哲學的 小考 = A Philosophical Research on Ryu Hyeok Yeon s Life

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research is a philosophical study on the life of Ryu Hyeok Yeon who had served as a military officer and military general under 4 Kings of Chosun Korea Dynasty in 17th Century in focusing on looking for the features of his life which has kept ethical instruction. In summary, he had embodied filial love for his parents and loyalty to his kings since his youth and performed his all the duties as a government official with the attitude of reverence of substance. He had controlled himself and his family strictly to morally become pure and perfect in his all life and in execution of official duties and thus had always been modesty and selfless. Therefore we can say he has shaped perfect fairness and impartiality in his life. Even though his own expressions are not enough to infer his philosophical thoughts, his practices and achievements of every stage of his life show absolute fairness and strict impartiality. It is so much valuable that he has shown a typical life which is actions over words. The cultural climate in which Confucian self-cultivation was stressed as a true methodology for building an authentic character can be indicated as the background where the prominent figure as him could appear on the historical stage of Chosun Dynasty. The valuation of his life in this study is really the results from the viewpoint of the self-cultivation theory, especially developed former studies of the author.
