The purpose of this study was to understand the process of adolescent mindset formation. To achieve this goal, qualitative data on the experiences of adolescent mindset formation were collected, and Giorgi's phenomenological analysis was used to explore the essential structure of mindset formation experiences. The exploratory results yielded 33 units of meaning, 13 subcomponents, and 5 components for the formation of a fixed mindset. For the formation of a growth mindset, 28 units of meaning, 10 subcomponents, and 4 components were derived. Based on these results, an integrated causal loop diagram (CLD) model reflecting systems thinking was constructed for the formation of a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. Ultimately, the integrated CLD for the formation of a fixed mindset consisted of 3 positive feedback loops and 3 negative feedback loops.
The integrated CLD for the formation of a growth mindset consisted of 3 positive feedback loops and 2 negative feedback loops. The implications of this study were summarized based on the research findings.
