Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate job stress and psychosocial stress among Korean navy deep sea divers.
Methods : We carried out a survey of 127 Navy Sea Salvage Unit(SSU) deep sea divers. The questionnaire survey includes general characteristics, job-related factors, job stress and psychosocial stress. Job stress and psychosocial stress was measured using Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS) and Psychosocial Well-being Index(PWI).
Results : Psychosocial stress score of Navy SSU deep sea divers was high and job stress level in 'physical environment' was high, too. Life threatening events while diving and job stress in 'physical environment', 'job demand', 'interpersonal conflict', 'organizational injustice', 'lack of rewards' was associated with higher psychosocial stress.
Conclusions : Psychosocial stress might be adversely influenced by job stress for most part. This study suggested that Navy SSU deep sea divers needed job stress management to minimize their psychological problems.
