대전역 도시 기억의 정원설계적 해석- 작가정원 ｢대전발 영시 오십분｣ 설계 과정 연구 - = An Interpretive Study of Garden Design on the Urban Memory of Daejeon Station -􀀃 A Study on the Design Process of the Designer Garden “Daejeon-departing 00:50” -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 대전정원박람회 작가정원 ｢대전발 영시 오십분｣의 설계와 시공 과정을 정원디자이너의 자기 설계 관점에서 기록하고, 도시 기억을 다루는 작가정원 설계의 특성을 정리하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 대전정원박람회의 공식 주제는“예술로 피어나는 정원도시”였으며, 이에 대해 필자는 1950∼1960년대 대전역 플랫폼, 완행열차, 플랫폼 국수 가게, 그리고 대중가요 ｢대전 블루스｣가사에 등장하는 “대전발 0시 50분” 이미지를 도시 기억의 핵심으로 해석하였다. 이를바탕으로 필자는 ｢대전발 영시 오십분｣이라는 주제를 설정하고, 작가정원 존 내 약 12m × 8m 규모의 필지에 직접설계․시공하였다. 연구는 작품 설명서, 설계 도면, 조형․식재․시설 계획, 그리고 설계․시공 과정에서 의사결정을회고적으로 정리한 기록을 중심으로 진행되었으며, 설계주제-설계모티브-설계언어 개념을 분석틀로 삼아 설계 과정을구조화하였다. 설계주제인 “대전역 풍경-대전발 0시 50분”은 국수가락, 젓가락, 레일을 상징하는 선형 요소, 흑․적화산석, 플랫폼, 식재라는 설계모티브로 구체화하였다. 이 중 젓가락은 두 겹의 150mm × 150mm 사각 파이프로 만든한글 ㄱ자 형태 프레임 구조로 형상화되었으며, 국수가락 모듈을 지지하는 조형적 장치이자 방향성을 제시하는 장치로기능한다. 국수가락은 Ø35mm 알루미늄 파이프를 일정 간격(C-C 80mm, 첫 센터 175mm)으로 배열하여 다양한 길이와본수로 구성하였고, 바람과 사람의 움직임에 따라 서로 부딪치며 가벼운 금속성 소리를 내도록 매다는 방식으로 계획하였다. 이러한 모티브는 플랫폼 존-레일 존-국수 가락 존이라는 공간구성, 다섯 가지 크기의 정사각 모듈, 알루미늄 파이프배열 규칙, 한글 ㄱ자 프레임 구조, 화산석을 중심으로 한 재료 연출, 가을 개화군을 축으로 하되, 봄․여름․겨울까지고려한 다계절 식재를 갖춘 전면 저상 초화-후면 관목-교목 식재라는 설계언어로 구현되었다. 또한 선형 리듬과 색채․질감․계절성, 그리고 바람에 반응하는 소리를 핵심 수단으로 활용하여 “0시 50분, 떠남과 머묾 사이의 10분”이라는 시간성과 정서를 정원 공간에 표현하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 정원디자이너가 공모 주제를 해석하고, 독립적인 설계주제를설정하여 도시 기억을 정원 언어로 번역하는 과정을 기록한 것으로, 작가정원과 같은 소규모 전시 정원을 학술적으로축적하는 하나의 연구 형식을 제안한다. 이를 통해 작가정원 설계의 의사결정 구조, 시간성․장소성․오감(특히 청각) 표현 전략, 그리고 도시 기억을 다루는 정원 디자인의 가능성을 제시한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The This paper documents the design and construction process of the designer garden “Daejeon departing 00:50,” created by the author for the Daejeon Garden Expo, and examines how designer gardens can engage with urban memory.
The official theme of the expo was “A Garden City Blooming with Art.” In response, the author interpreted the urban memory of Daejeon through the imagery of the 1950s-1960s station platform, slow local trains, platform noodle stalls, and the line “the 00:50 train departing from Daejeon”from the popular song “Daejeon Blues.” On this basis, the author set the design theme “ Daejeon departing 00:50”and personally designed and built the garden on a 12m×8m plot within the designer garden zone. The study draws on the project description, design drawings, planting and facility plans, and retrospective notes on design and construction decisions. Using the analytical framework of design theme, design motif, and design language, the study structures the overall design process. The design theme, “Daejeon station landscape - Daejeon departing 00:50,”is developed into motifs such as noodle strands, chopsticks, linear elements symbolizing railway tracks, black and red lava stones, platform imagery, and planting. The chopsticks are expressed as a ㄱ-shaped (L shaped) frame composed of two overlapped 150mm × 150mm square steel pipes, rigidly fixed to a concrete footing and functioning as a sculptural structure supporting the noodle strand modules. The noodle strands are made of Ø35mm aluminum pipes arranged according to a simple rule (C-C 80mm, first center at 175mm) and suspended so that wind and human movement cause them to sway and collide, producing a light metallic sound. Planting is organized as a three layer scheme of low perennials at the front and shrubs and small trees at the back, planned as a multi season composition that focuses on autumn flowering while also considering spring, summer, and winter structure. This study records the process through which a garden designer interprets a competition theme, establishes an independent design concept, and translates urban memory into the language of garden space, form, material, planting, and sound. It further proposes that documenting small exhibition gardens such as designer gardens in this manner can serve as an academic method for accumulating design practice, and identifies decision making structures, strategies for expressing temporality, sense of place, and multi sensory experience (in particular auditory experience), as well as the potential of garden design that engages with urban memory.
