조선통사(朝鮮通事)가 남긴 대마도(對馬島)의 한글편지에 대하여 = A Study on Hangeul letters of Tsushima written by Joseon Interpreters

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 현재 長崎立對馬歷史民俗資料館에 소장된 朝鮮通事(譯官)의 한글편지(諺簡)들을 소개하고 이 편지들의 역사적 배경 및 發信者와 受信者, 편지가 쓰여진 시기 등을 밝히는 데 주목적이 있다. 『朝鮮王朝實錄』을 비롯한 각종 史料들을 통해, 새로 발견된 이 諺簡들이 18세기말～19세기초에 이르는 시기의 歷史的 事實을 담고 있는 편지들임을 밝혔다. 특히 이 편지들은 1795년부터 1810년경까지 쓰여진 것으로 보이며, 주로 1811년 辛未通信使行이 이루어지기까지, 日本과 ``易地通信協商``의 과정에서 協商의 당사자였던 朝鮮通事들이 日本通詞들에게 보낸 개인적인 편지들임이 드러났다. 이 연구는 18～19세기초에 이르는 시기에 中人(특히 譯官) 남성들 사이에, 게다가 외국인에게 보낸 한글편지라는 점에서 주목된다. 國語學的으로는 당시의 口語資料 및 文法資料로서의 가치를 지니며, 朝鮮과 對馬島 간에 이루어진 外交의 한 단면을 보여주는 1차 사료로서의 가치도 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research introduces Hangeul letters(Eon-gan) of Joseon interpreters that are currently possessed in Nagasaki Prefectural Tsushima museum of history and folklore and to investigate those letters` historical background, sender, recipient and period those letters were written. Through various historical sources along with Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty), the research discovered that those Hangeul letters included historical facts from the end of 18th century to the beginning of 19th century. In particular, those letters were considered to be written from 1795 to 1810, mostly in 1811 when the dispatch of Sinmi-Tongsinsa in the 18th century was done. And they were personal letters from Joseon interpreters, who were directly involved in the negotiation, to Japan interpreters during the process of ``Yeokji-tongsin (Reverse Communications) Negotiation`` with Japan. This research focused that they were Hangeul letters sent to foreigners, furthermore the letters between men of Jungin (middle-people, especially official interpreters) class from the end of 18th century to the beginning of 19th century. As Korean linguistics, it has value as oral language materials and grammar materials at that time and also has a value as primary historical sources that show an aspect of diplomacy between Joseon and Tsusima,
