대학생의 자아존중감과 문화간 감수성과의 관계에서 문화정체성의 매개효과 = The Effect of College Students Self-Esteem on Intercultural Sensitivity: The Mediating Role of Cultural Identity

국문 초록 (Abstract)

다문화사회로의 빠른 진입에 따라 대학생의 문화간 감수성 향상의 필요성이 증가되고 있다. 본 연구는 대학생의 문화간 감수성에 자아존중감과 문화정체성이 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고, 문화정체성이 자아존중감과 문화간 감수성과의 관계에서 매개효과를 보이는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 자료 수집을 위하여 서울 소재 4년제 여자대학교를 선정하였다. 연구 참가자는 2015년 2학기부터 2016년 1학기에 교양과목 및 전공 선택 과목(8개반)을 수강중인 416명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며, 완료된 설문지 374개로 위계적 회귀분석 결과, 자아존중감이 문화정체성과 문화간 감수성에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 문화 정체성이 자아존중감과 문화간 감수성과의 관계에서 부분적인 매개효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 요약컨대, 대학생의 자아존중감이 높을수록 문화정체성도 높으며, 문화간 감수성도 높은 것을 의미한다. 대학생의 자아존중감이 문화간 감수성에 직접 영향을 주고, 문화정체성을 매개하여 간접적 영향을 준다는 것을 볼 수 있다. 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구의 학문적 의의 및 실무적 시사점, 그리고 추후 연구과제에 대해 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of the current study is to examine the relationship between college students self-esteem and their perceived intercultural sensitivity. In particular, this study attempts to explore the mechanism beyond the relation between college students self-esteem and their perceived intercultural sensitivity by investigating the mediating role of cultural identity. We collected data between fall 2015 and spring 2016 from 416 students at a private college based in Seoul, and 374 responses were included. Hierarchical regression analysis has shown the results that college students self-esteem is positively related to their intercultural sensitivity and cultural identity. In addition, the cultural identity was found as a partial mediator between college students self-esteem and their perceived intercultural sensitivity. Theoretical and practical implications of the results are discussed, and future research directions are proposed.
