3D printing, called “layered manufacturing,” is drawing attention as one of the key technologies that will lead the fourth industrial revolution. In particular, due to the nature of 3D printing, it is expected to continue to develop in the mechanical and aerospace fields. In addition, there is a lot of research in foreign countries on the utilization of 3D printing in the field of defense, along with in the field of machinery and aerospace. But little research has been done in the field here.
This paper believes that 3D printing can be the most optimized technology for solving problems of component procurement and repair and repair as the repair part of the weapons system is discontinued. Currently,
the nation's 3D printing industry lags far behind that of advanced countries, but efforts continue to be made to utilize 3D printing technology in the defense sector as well.
In this light, we examined the characteristics of 3D printing and the differences between traditional manufacturing methods, and suggested ways to activate 3D printing in our Air Force through the current state
of use of 3D printing in major countries and Korea.
