The impact of office information systems on the quality of work life of workers and managers at seven organization is studied. Since there is little research in this area, an exploratory study was carried out. First, a series of interviews were used to identify how IT on QWL. Second, a survey was used to confirm these results. The data indicate that IT is perceived to both improve and worsen QWL. subjects indicated that if using IT made their work more challenging, allowed them to exert more control over their work, and allowed to produce higher quality work, they perceived that IT improved QWL. They also noted, however, that if IT led to an increase in workload, it worsened QWL.
