This paper is devoted to Binding Theory and demonstrative effect. First, In the Lebeaux-Ueda-Aikawa approach, pronouns and long distance reflexives admit covariant interpretation and invariant interpretation. On the other hand, in the Williams-Cho approach, reflexives never yield invariant interpretation. There are problems however involved with these approaches. We have seen that a demonstrative may be in general understood as a context of copying, or a context of anaphora. In other words, reflexives and pronouns admit both covariant interpretation and invariant interpretation. In this respect, it appears to me that both of the approaches are unstable. In the course of our discussion, we distinguished anaphoric reference and Common Reference. There are certain cases where Common Reference does not apply. We have also argued that in view of long distance anaphors, principle A restricts Common Reference. Apart from long distance anaphors, in the case of heavy reflexives, principle A constrains anaphoric reference. This is precisely what we obtain from the speaker`s intention which makes crucial references to the Binding Theory.
