Dance is a creative body expression that accompanies intelligent mind activity. A dance education is the education of expression realizing one's ego with body movements, it is not limited to body motion but forms a deep relation with sentiments and emotions, and it has two aspects of values, which are movement education and expression. Teachers should recognize various goals of three studying fields(cognizant, heart-moving, emotional) after considering ability of students and teach them balancely. They should know diverse teaching models and make full use of it in order to increase its efficiency. So this study was conducted as a plan to make a high quality dance class course by applying a teaching model into a dance class as a way of realizing intelligent mind activities and creative expression activities to explode more effective teaching models.
A purpose of this study is to find a teaching method to satisfy the desires of students for better quality of dance class. Therefore this study is to grasp the effects that appear by applying ‘Hanaro teaching model’, which is a new teaching model for pursuing education for the whole man and a goal of physical education in the 7th curriculum, into a general dance class targeting elementary school students, and at the same time to search possibility of applying teaching model to dance class. Moreover this study put its purpose of presenting future vision of effective and expressive dance education and acquirements that dance teacher should meet.
Two classes of D elementary school in Hanamsi of Gyeongggido were selected, which do not have significant differences, targeting a dance club after school, and divided into test group and control group and taught in order to achieve the purpose of this study. The test class applied teaching as one and preceded various kinds of lessons such as functional lesson, cooperative lesson, creative lesson, persuasive lesson, audio-visual lesson, competitive lesson, and the control class kept a traditional and general way of teaching which emphasizes functions and completes the work through repetitions and practices. The purpose of Hanaro dance class is on the education for the whole man of practicing a combined teaching. The teacher suggests a dance task, and the student performs a ‘reading class’ through scrapping and data research, a ‘watching class’ through watching a dance work and criticizing it with audio-visual activity, a ‘do it myself class’ of learning cooperation with schoolmates through team activity, and a ‘making it by myself class’ of evaluating each other through making creative works and opening a presentation. Lesson was done 20 times (2 times per week and 11 weeks) for a total of 3 months, and satisfaction and achievement from the dance lesson was inspected before and after the lesson. Following results were found after collecting statistics on result of accomplishment measure of dance ability and class satisfaction measure and by comparing and analyzing it.
First, Hanaro teaching gives a positive effect on accomplishment measure of all dances than regular classes. For each ability category, the creative ability has increased the most with 26 points compared to a general dance class, the understanding ability was 23 points and lastly the practical ability had increased to the last with 6 points. Second, when the before-class and the after-class were compared, satisfaction measures of students from the regular dance class had increased by 3 points but satisfaction measures of students from Hanaro dance class had increased by 9 points. This states that Hanaro dance class has much more positive effect on satisfaction measures on classes by 6 points.
To conclude all the results above, Hanaro dance class has greater effect on improvement of satisfaction measures than general classes with its various direct and indirect experience activities.
In order to promote educational synergistic effect from the results of this study, the author of this study proposes that a teacher cannot bring out the wanted result only with a mere passion for skills. A teacher must have a minimal general knowledge (academic thinking), be full of love and passion for dance, be equipped with expertise and great sense about dance, and be able to show her students everything she has both by body and mind in order to achieve a successful education. Dance teachers must equip themselves with expertise and dance if they want to transform dance into art. In addition, teachers should increase their quality as teachers, be able to meet the students' needs and expectations, and provide students with proper learning methods.
Furthermore, schools should fulfill an advanced class, adapting it to a developmental stage of students and perform a dance subject, which gives positive effects on various fields such as physical development, development in rhythms and expression, confidence, circulation of emotions and development of originality, for a lifetime, not just making it as one time thing. Teachers at the school sites should carry an attitude of preparing new teaching data and developing teaching methods continuously by grasping the current curriculum, and the school should support materials for dance classes and number of hours of lessons, where continuous classes can be realized for dance education to reach essential educational objectives with true and diverse fields of unified knowleges in order to actualize this efforts of the teachers.
