야곱의 아들 요셉을 통해 본 성경 속의 효에 대한 고찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

사회의 발전으로 증가하는 문화적 욕구는 좀 더 많은 부(富)와 시간적 자유를 요구하고 있다. 이를 충족하기 위하여 여성들의 사회 참여(社會 參與)가 높아지고 자녀 양육의 어려움을 겪으면서 저 출산이 극도에 달하고 있다. 또한 의료기술의 발달과 건강관리에 관심을 쏟으며 평균수명이 늘어나 급속히 증가한 노부모를 모시기 싫어하며, 자녀수가 적어져 자식에 대한 관심도가 증가하고 일상에서 자녀를 우선하게 되면서 가족체계가 자녀 중심으로 바뀌어 가정의 근본인 부모를 공경하는 효행 정신이 약해져 도덕적 균형을 잃어가는 위기가 다가오고 있다. 이렇게 사회와 가정에서 많은 문제들이 발생되어지자 사회 질서를 바로 세우기 위한 새로운 대안으로 효 실천에 대한 강조가 늘어나고 있어 이를 실현할 방안의 강구가 요구된다.
효 실천은 육신(肉身)의 부자관계에서 요구되는 인간 사이의 윤리일 뿐만 아니라 하나님이 내리신 명령이며 하나님의 아들이신 예수님께서 직접 행하신 도리(道理)이기도 하다. 더구나 효 실천은 모든 종교와 이념을 초월하고 계층과 세대차를 극복할 수 있는 사회 질서 확립의 묘책(妙策)이라고 할 수 있겠다. 이러한 맥락에서 성경 속의 효는 무엇인지를 살펴보고, 신앙을 가진 사람들은 어떻게 효를 실천할 것인지에 대하여 살펴보았다.
하나님은 인간을 창조하시고 많은 축복을 내리시어 인류가 번성(蕃盛)하고 약속의 땅으로 갈 수 있도록 인도하신다. 족장사에서 출애굽으로 이어지는 역사에서 하나님은 여러 세대를 거쳐 함께하시며 이스라엘 백성을 한 가정으로부터 민족을 이루게 하신다. 이 과정에서 여호와는 자연의 재앙(災殃)인 대기근(大饑饉)으로부터 이스라엘 백성을 구하고자 하며 그 뜻을 사역(使役)할 자로 야곱의 아들 요셉을 선택하고 고난으로 굳건한 믿음을 시험하시며 요셉이 진실하고 성결한 삶을 살고 하나님의 명령인 효를 실천하게 할 수 있도록 축복을 내리신다. 요셉은 하나님을 경외(敬畏)하고 믿으며 의지한 굳센 신앙의 인물로 아버지 야곱의 말씀에 순종하고 은혜를 잊지 않으며 아버지를 잘 봉양하고 형제들과 화목 하는 효를 실천한 구약성경에서 효의 표상(表象)이라 할 수 있는 사람이다.
이러한 요셉의 생애를 통해 성경 속의 효를 알아보고 그가 실천한 효와 하나님 말씀과는 어떠한 관계가 있고 효의 근간(根幹)이 되는 부자관계는 어떤 것인지에 대하여 살펴봄으로써 효 실천은 하나님의 명령이며 부모와 자녀간의 관계는 수직적 절대적인 것으로, 자녀는 하나님을 경외하고 성경 말씀을 따르며 부모에게 순종하고 부모의 은혜를 잊지 않고 가까이 모시며 성심으로 봉양하여야 하는 것임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 부모의 기능과 의무는 무엇보다도 신앙에 철두철미하여 올바로 형성된 신앙적 유산을 자녀에게 전수하고 자녀를 양육하고 보호하여야 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이를 정리하여 우리가 효(孝)를 행(行)하기 위해 실천해야 할 하나님의 말씀이 무엇인지를 요셉의 효로 구체화하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Driven by civilization, the ever mounting desire to attain a higher level of culture requires us to devote more wealth and personal time. In order to achieve this goal, we must sacrifice the quality time demanded for raising children seriously. This causes us an extremely low national birth rate since women have to take part of social activities more often. Also, the traditional value of caring for the elderly is diminishing significantly due to the fast-growing number of seniors with increased average life spans helped by advanced medical technologies and increased public concern toward health care. Increasingly, people are giving more attention to their children and placing less emphasis on their senior members. Caring for parents used to be a symbol of a culture’s commitment to honoring their parents. But today, a weakened filial piety has become a moral crisis. These newly brewing problems in family and society desperately need a solution. In order to restore the culture’s filial piety, many have strongly demanded a determined focus on solving this crisis.
Filial obligations are not only a matter of human morals, but they are also part of God’s commands. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, fulfilled his obligations to his God directly. Furthermore, a restoration of filial piety would cure many social problems, and this goal should help us overcome any differences of belief or ideology, and any gap in social status or generation. In the interest of pursuing this approach, let us consider the true meaning of filial piety in bible and how all Christians can fulfill our share of filial obligations to our parents.
God created humans and blessed us as he let us spread through the world and as he led us to a promised land. As we can see from the history of the Patriarchs and in the Book of Exodus, God sent many generations of his chosen people to flourish, after he had led them to a promised land. So the people of Israel created nation from one family. Jehovah saved Israel from the famine and he selected Joseph the son of Jacob to carry his will. God put Joseph through hardship to test his strength of belief and eventually blessed him with a purified life with a chance of fulfilling God’s command of filial piety. Joseph was a very religious man who he believed, respected, trusted, and relied on God. Joseph is the best model in the Old Testament of one who fulfilled his filial obligations. He obeyed and cared for his father Jacob, he never forgot to repay the kindness he received from others, and he kept good harmony with his brothers and sisters. Through Joseph’s life we can find the relationship between the meaning of filial piety and God’s words in the Bible.
As we contemplate the relationship between parents and children, we can see that God has commanded children not to forget their parents’ favor. They should obey their parents since the parent -child relationship is vertical and absolute. Children must respect God and should take care of their parents with their best efforts. In turn, the number one function and duty of parents is keeping a strong faith that can be handed over to their children. A solid religious upbringing is a good protection. To sum up, Joseph’s example shows us the details of God’s commandments concerning filial piety.
