Texture in cold rolled 90-10 brass rolling reduction from 60 to 98% has been investigated to characterize the mechanism of deformation with x-ray and electron micrography. The crystallite orientation distribution function has been determined from three incomplete pole figures ({111},{200},{220} at cold reductions of 60,70,80,90,95,97 and 98 percent. The textures of 90-100 brass show a similar initial development to that of copper but a transition occurs above the intermediate strain level. This indicated that an additional deformation mode had become active. The feature of the transition are consistent if the additional deformation mode were mechanical twining and shear band.
