김대중 정부의 햇볕정책에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Kim Dae-Jung Government's Sun-Shine Policy

Sunshine Policy(the engagement policy) of South Korea is a new strategic approach to North Korea in order to promote the co-existence and co-prosperity of the two Koreas, when the North still maintains a Cold War posture against its Southern brother.
Sunshine Policy(the engagement policy) is the very realistic northern policy that we can opt for under the current situation of the peninsula.
Pyongyang condemns Seoul's engagement policy. Pyongyang criticized Seoul's "sunshine policy" of engaging North Korea, calling it "an absurd, anti-national and anti-North scheme." A Foreign Ministry spokesman of South Korea said in a statement that the sunshine policy was a "variant of the peaceful transition strategy" of U. S, aimed at inducing the North to reform, open up and finally bring Pyongyang under a system of liberal democracy.
However, some North Korean scholars and officials admitted Seoul's engagement policy has played a positive role to vitalize North Korea's economic growth and diplomatic activitities in recent years.
South Korea is confident that, though it may take some time, the engagement policy toward North Korea will surely pay off in the long run.
