An all-optical full adder was proposed and demonstrated for the
first time by using semiconductor optical-amplifier-based logic gates. The all-optical full adder was opterated at 10 Gbit/s by
using RZ input signals. Two all-optical XOR and four all-optical NOR gates were utilized to realize SUM and CARRY of the all-optical full adder, respectively. Since SUM and CARRY were simultaneously realized, the operation characteristics of the all-optical full adder were successfully measured at 10 Gbit/s.
