경찰 무력행사의 영향요인 분석 = 개인적 특성, 직무특성, 체포활동의 통합적 관점을 토대로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 경찰 무력행사에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 경찰 무력행사 결정요인으로 경찰관의 개인적 특성, 직무특성, 체포활동을 선정하였으며, 경찰관의 개인적 특성 변수로 성별, 연령, 교육정도, 근무기간을 활용하였다. 경찰 무력행사 영향요인과 경찰 무력행사 간의 상관성을 분석한 결과, 직무특성과 체포활동이 경찰 무력행사와 유의미한 정(+)의 상관성을 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 경찰 무력행사의 결정요인을 확인한 결과, 직무특성과 체포활동이 경찰무력행사에 유의미한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면에 경찰관의 개인적 특성인 성별, 연령, 교육정도, 근무기간은 유의미한 영향을 미치지 못한 것으로 분석되었다. 이런 분석결과를 토대로, 본 연구에서는 특히 경찰관의 과도하거나 부적절한 무력행사를 예방하기 위한 방안을 교육훈련, 직무배분, 직무교육 등의 관점에서 제시하고자 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study contributes to explain police use of force in Korean circumstance by examining the impacts of police officers" background characteristics, job characteristics (patrol area and shift assignment), and arrest activity on police use of force with an integrated research approach. Survey for police use of force data is conducted on 382 police officers employed in large police agencies in Daegu, Ulsan, and Busan metropolitans. The study examines the impact of these factors on police use of force through ordinary squares(OLS) regressions. Results show that job characteristics and arrest activity have statistically significant effects(p<.01) on police use of force and not police officers" background characteristics. This study suggests specific policy implications in order to refrain from using excessive force of police in the area of officer training, job assignment, and job discipline.
