In order to control backfire for a hydrogen-fueled free-piston engine, occurrence backfire and characteristic of combustion are analyzed about area and of exhaust valve by using RICEM(Rapid Intake Compression Expansion Machine) for free piston engine that has uniflow scavenging.
As the results, increasing area of exhaust valve is profited to control backfire due to retarded opening timing of backfire limit exhaust valve. In addition, thermal efficiency is decreased by increasing equivalence ratio but it shows effect of compensation with changing area of exhaust valve.
