김유정 문학의 자기 서사와 자기 돌봄의 윤리

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 나르시시스트의 시대, ‘자기 돌봄의 필요성’과 ‘글쓰기의 역할’에 주목하고, 글쓰기를 통해 자기 돌봄, 나아가 타자 돌봄을 실천한 인물로 작가 김유정을 조망한다. 김유정은 스물아홉 해의 짧은 생을 사는 동안 늑막염과 폐결핵, 치질 등의 신체적 질병과 염인증(厭人症), 대인기피증, 우울과 말더듬 등의 심리적 증상에 시달렸다. 그에게 글쓰기는 ‘생존’과 등가를 이루는 것으로, 끊임없이 자신과 관계 맺음으로써 자신을 수양하고 ‘변화’시키기 위한 매일 매일의 실천이었다.
김유정은 질병 서사를 통해 병든 육체를 자신의 일부로 끌어안으면서도, 병자, 약자, 동정의 대상이라는 사회적 규정에서 벗어나, 주체적인 방식으로 살아가는 실존적 존재로 자신을 재규정한다. 또한 자신의 가족 서사를 다양한 형식으로 소설화함으로써 자신에게 주어진 삶의 시간을 긍정하며, 가족과의 관계에 강력하게 붙들려 있는 자신을 지속적으로 돌본다. 마지막으로 애정결핍에 시달렸던 김유정은 일면식도 없는 여인에게 연서를 쓰거나 구애 사건을 자전 소설로 발표하는 등 이질적인 방식으로 자신의 사랑을 돌보고자 했다. 타인과의 무조건적인 관계 맺기로 요약되는 김유정의 사랑은, 연애가 스타일로 전락해가던 근대에 타인에게 기괴함으로 다가오지만, 한편으로는 타인들의 자기 동일성에 균열을 가한다. 이것이 바로 김유정이 말하는 ‘위대한 사랑’이며, 타자 돌봄으로 나아가는 자기 돌봄의 윤리일 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study focuses on the ‘necessity of self-care’ and ‘the role of writing’ in the era of narcissists, and looks at writer Kim Yu-jeong as a person who practiced self-care and further care for others through writing. During Kim Yu-jeongs short life of 29 years, he suffered from physical diseases such as pleurisy, pulmonary tuberculosis, and hemorrhoids, as well as psychological symptoms such as hatred of people, social phobia, depression, and stuttering. For him, writing was equivalent to ‘survival’, a daily practice for him to discipline and ‘transform’ himself by constantly relating to himself.
Through his illness narrative, Kim Yu-jeong embraces his sick body as a part of himself, while redefining himself as an existential being who lives in an subjective way, breaking away from the social definitions of the sick, the weak, and the object of sympathy. He also fictionalizes his own family narratives in various forms, take a positively the time in life that has been given to him and continuing to care for himself as he remains powerfully attached to relationship with his family. Lastly, Kim Yu-jeong, who suffered from his lack of affection, tried to take care of his love in heterogeneous ways, such as writing a love letter to a woman he had never met or publishing his courtship incident in an autobiographical novel. Kim Yu-jeongs love, which can be summarized as his unconditional relationship with others, appears grotesque to others in modern times when romantic relationship is reduced to a style, but on the other hand, it causes a crack in the self-identity of others. This is the ‘great love’ that Kim Yu-jeong speaks of, and the ethics of self-care that lead to his care for others.
