대안교육의 생태적 적합성에 관한 연구 = (A) Study of the Ecological Adaptiveness of the Alternative Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 인류가 직면한 심각한 생태계의 위기에 대해서 우리는 어느 정도 인식은 하고 있으나 그 해결을 위한 실천에는 모두 소극적이고 피상적이다. 이는 과거 서구 물질중심 문명과 과학지상주의에 매몰되어 생태위기의 본질을 제대로 파악하지 못하고 있기 때문이 아닌가 생각된다. 이러한 문제의식을 가지고 새로운 교육이념과 실천을 전개하고 있는 이른바 '대안학교'에 주목하고자 한다.
특히 대안학교의 교육이념과 그 교육과정이 생태주의적 세계관에 적합한 점을 찾아내고, 그러한 교육을 받은 학생들의 가치관과 세계관이 얼마나 변화하고 있는지 실증적으로 분석하고자 한다. 이러한 작업은 문명사적 위기에 직면한 전환기에 대안교육이 생태주의적 세계관 함양에 효과적이라는 사실을 검증해내고, 다양한 갈래로 전개되고 있는 대안교육운동의 올바른 방향을 제시하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다.
따라서 본 연구에서 설정한 가설은 '대안교육은 학생들의 생태주의적 세계관 함양에 효과적'이며 따라서 대안교육의 교육이념과 교육과정은 생태적으로 적합하다는 것이다.
이러한 가설을 검증하기 위해 우선 문헌연구를 통해 최근 논의되고 있는 다양한 생태주의 이론들을 살펴보고, 그것을 토대로 지표와 설문지를 만들어 대안학교 학생들과 일반 인문계 고등학교 학생들의 생태주의적 세계관을 조사·분석하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다.
즉 대안학교 학생들이 일반학교 학생들에 비해 인간중심적인 사고와 과학기술을 신뢰하는 환경관리주의에 대해 더 비판적이었고, 농업 중심 사회로의 회귀에 우호적이었으며 반면에 자본주의 시장경제에 대해서는 비판적인 것으로 나타났다.
그리고 대안학교 학생들이 일반학교 학생들보다 물신주의로부터 자유로웠고, 생태계 보호를 위해 소비주의적인 삶의 양식을 버리고 자발적 가난을 선택하고자 하는 생태적 삶에 대한 실천 의향도 강했으며, 최근 추세화되고 있는 세계화와 정보화에 대해서도 대안학교 학생들은 일반학교 학생들에 비해 비판적으로 인식하고 있어 자본이 주도하는 일방적인 세계화와 정보화사회에 대해 무조건 추종하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
한편 대안학교 학생들은 일반학교 학생들보다 대학진학에 대한 필요성을 심각하게 느끼지 않고 있었으며, 현재 다니고 있는 학교에서의 환경교육에 대해서도 만족하고 있었고 학교교육을 통해 자연관이나 가치관에 변화를 느낀다고 생각하고 있었다.
이러한 분석 결과를 토대로 결론을 내리면 대안교육이 생태주의적 세계관 함양에 효과적이고 따라서 대안교육은 생태적으로 적합하다고 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Though we are aware of the serious ecological crisis mankind faces these days, we are too passive and superficial to implement and practice what we ought to de to solve the problem. That's probably because we are not able to understand the substantial problem of the ecological crisis, due to the influence of the past western supremacy of materialism civilization and scientism. Now, we are going to pay attention to the 'Alternative School', practicing the new educational philosophy from this standpoint.
Particularly, we are going to find out the appropriateness of the educational philosophy and the educational program to the ecological point of view, and verify the changes among the students who have received this kind of new educational program in their viewpoints, if any. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to verify the effectiveness of the alternative education in cultivating the ecological point of view at this transitional period, facing crisis from the eye of the history of civilization and to suggest the right direction for the various alternative education movements.
The hypotheses established in this study, accordingly, are that 'the alternative education is effective in cultivating the ecological viewpoints of the students' and thus the education philosophy and the program of the alternative education is appropriate ecologically.
To verify these hypotheses, I started with reviewing the various ecological theories discussed these days through literature study and prepared an indexes and questionnaire to investigate and analyze the differences between the students of the alternative schools and of the ordinary high schools in terms of ecological viewpoints, lead to the following results.
It turned out that the students of the alternative school are more humanistic, while critical to the environment development control and more amicable to the return to the agricultural society, while critical to the market economy of the capitalism, than the ordinary high school students.
Also, the alternative school students are comparatively free from the fetishism and more inclined to the practice of the ecological life style, choosing the plain life voluntarily rather than the consumptive life style. The alternative school students are more critical to the recent trend of globalization and information society, not blindly following the capital-initiated characteristics, too.
In the meantime, the alterative school students are comparatively not serious to the necessity of the college education. They are satisfied with the education program on environment provided by their schools and perceived changes on their views on the nature and the value through the school education.
In conclusion, based on the result of the foregoing analysis, the alternative education is effective for cultivating the ecological views of the students and thus it is appropriate ecologically.
