In Korean language system, native vocabulary is the most basic, the most common words and expressions for everyday use. As an important part of this kind of native vocabulary, onomatopoeic and mimetic words can express human emotion and delicately and smoothly describe specific objects. Therefore, in order to strengthen performance effects of language, Korean people use a lot of onomatopoeic and mimetic words in their daily life.
For Korean native speakers, onomatopoeic and mimetic words can be understood without specific education. But for Chinese speakers, onomatopoeic and mimetic words are difficult to grasp and education of onomatopoeic and mimetic words is necessary. Especially in the aspect of substantially increasing Korean language level of foreign Korean learners, systematically implementing the education of onomatopoeic and mimetic words is particularly important. Especially, in Korean words and expressions for everyday use, expressive words are well-developed, a great part of these expressive words are implemented by onomatopoeic and mimetic words which can delicately and accurately things. For this reason, in order to improve foreign Korean learners' level of Korean skills, special and systematic learning of onomatopoeic and mimetic words for them is necessary.
In Chinese language, onomatopoeic and mimetic words is not as well-developed as Korean,. Therefore, in order to improve the ability of Chinese speakers' vocabulary, this study advocates systematic education of onomatopoeic and mimetic words should be implemented for Chinese speakers. This study discusses characteristics of phonology and morphology, and then provides education plan of onomatopoeic and mimetic words and develops related graded teaching materials.
In Chapter 1, purpose and necessity of the study of onomatopoeic and mimetic words education is clarified. And then related studies in philology, Korean Language Education, Korean Education as a Foreign Language are analyzed and effective research approach and procedures are provided.
In Chapter 2, the concept of onomatopoeic and mimetic words in Korean linguistics is unscrambled. Furthermore, after characteristics of phonology and morphology are specifically discussed, based on these characteristics, differences of near synonyms of onomatopoeic and mimetic words and differences between onomatopoeic and mimetic words are also discussed. At the same time, constitutive principles of onomatopoeic and mimetic words' derivatives' vocabulary is provided. And then the theoretical foundation for implementing 'onomatopoeic and mimetic words education based on characteristics of phonology' and 'onomatopoeic and mimetic words education based on characteristics of morphology' are also provided.
In Chapter 3, based on the above discussion, in order to effectively select out education contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words, provide education plan and develop teaching materials for Chinese speakers, this study selects Korean teachers and learners in China as research objects, investigates and analyzes their knowledge, requirements and actual using learn methods of onomatopoeic and mimetic words. Based on the analysis result of the investigation items, this study explores education contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words, education activity types and development of related vocabulary teaching materials.
In Chapter 4, firstly actual appearing situation and appearing frequency of onomatopoeic and mimetic words in Korean·Chinese Korean teaching materials, Korean Vocabularies, Test of Proficiency in Korean(TOPIK) and other Korean sentences which are used in daily life is analyzed. And then based on the analysis result and investigation result, selective principles of education of onomatopoeic and mimetic words is provided. Therefore an education contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words is made based on these selective principles. Moreover, for lmiddle-and-high level learners, based on the education contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words, derivative contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words is also made.
In Chapter 5, based on the education contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words, using the contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words and its derivative selected in Chapter 4, 'near synonyms of onomatopoeic and mimetic words comparative education contents based on based on characteristics of phonology' and 'derivative education contents according to suffix' which is based on characteristics of morphology are provided, various vocabulary education activities which can help learners' learning of onomatopoeic and mimetic words are also provided.
In Chapter 6, based on the provided education plan and considering the investigation result in Chapter 4, constructive main points and direction of teaching materials of Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words are grasped. And then based on the vocabulary of the contents of onomatopoeic and mimetic words and its derivative selected in Chapter 4, teaching materials of onomatopoeic and mimetic words according the different learning levels(basic, middle, high) are developed. Moreover, 3 examples of basic, middle, high learning levels are selected for demonstrating the unit construction of each learning level's teaching materials of onomatopoeic and mimetic words.
Moreover, in order to verify the actual effect of education teaching materials and education plan provided in this study, this study selects 1-3 grade university students of Korean Department of a university in China and takes one semester experiment teaching and also makes questionnaires and evaluation results from them. After questionnaires and evaluation results of test are analyzed, the conclusion that the education plan and education teaching materials are valid is made.
Finally, in Chapter 7, conclusions of each chapter are made and deficiencies of this study and future research plan are provided.
