슈만의 성격소품에 나타난 문학과 음악과의 연관성 연구 : J. P. 리히터와 E.T.A. 호프만의 문학 작품을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

낭만주의 시대의 음악과 문학의 결합을 가장 잘 나타낸 작곡가는 슈만(Robert Alexander Schumann,1810-1856)이다. 슈만의 피아노 작품은 낭만주의 음악에 있어서 중요한 연구적 가치를 지닌다. 기존 연구들은 낭만주의 미학이나 19세기 음악양식의 방향을 두고 연구되었다. 슈만의 피아노 작품에는 문학적 성격이 강하게 나타나고 있고 그러한 것들을 이해하지 못하면 슈만의 피아노 작품에 정확한 이해가 어렵기 때문에 음악과 문학과의 연관성을 중점으로 연구해보자 한다.
본 연구에서는 낭만주의 시대와 슈만의 생애 및 피아노 작품에서의 문학적 성향들을 연구하였고, 슈만의 대표적 작곡기법인 성격소품에 나타난 문학적 특징들을 알아보았다. 또한, 그의 음악적 특징들인 선율의 인용· 가상 인물 설정· 대위법· 문자의 음형화 등의 사용을 통해 문학적 요소를 음악 작품 안에 사용하였음을 밝혀냈다.
슈만은 리히터의 소설 『개구쟁이 시절』에 영감을 받아 《나비》를 작곡하였다. 소설에 나오는 발트, 불트, 비나의 성격들 또는 등장인물들 간의 갈등과 상황들을 리듬, 화성적 기법을 사용하여 선율로 표현하였다. 또한 등장인물들의 재등장이나 같은 성격을 표현하려는 곳에서는 대위법을 사용하였다.
슈만은 평론가로 활동하며 ‘음악신보’ 를 통해 자신의 이중적 성격을 대변하기 위한 가상 인물로 오이제비우스와 플로레스탄을 만들고 자신의 음악 작품에 사용하기도 했다.
호프만의 소설 『수고양이 무어』에서도 현실세계와 환상세계의 인물간의 대조가 특징으로 나타나는데 이것이 슈만의 피아노곡 《크라이슬레리아나》에서 오이제비우스와 플로레스탄의 대비로 나타난다. 그리고 시나 표제를 인용하고 문학가들의 영향을 받아 자신의 시적 정서를 표현했고, 자신이 사랑하는 클라라의 음형을 만들어 곡에 사용하였다. 또한, 그의 피아노 곡 《아베그변주곡》이나 《카니발》등에서 인명이나 지명을 문자로 나타내고 그 문자를 다시 음정으로 변화하여 주제를 만들어서 곡을 만들었다는 것을 알 수 있다.

Romanticism had a close relation with literature and music, and as we could see though the character piece of Schumann, a lot amount of the piece of music which has titles appeared. One of the composers that best represents the combination of music and literature is Schumann (Robert Alexander Schumann 1810-1856). Schumann’s piano works are significantly worth studying of Romantic music.
It is important to understand Schumann's music to know that his pieces include some features of literature. So this research is focusing on relevation between music and literature.
The earlier studies had placed more emphasis on Romanticism aesthetics or the direction of music style of 19th century. But looking at the Schumann’s piano works, we can find that they have much relevance with literature. He left many piano works especially influenced by the contemporary writers, Richter and Hofmann, and made a musical representation of literary elements in his works. He used Florestan and Eusebius as fictitious character in his piece of music to indicate his personality.
This research is about how Romantic period and Schumann's life at that time influenced his musical pieces and his sentiments, and to learn the features of his typical technique, character piece. This research also finds out how he quoted poem or how he changed characters in novels into music.
Schumann Wrote 《Papillions, Op.2》inspired by one of the nobles of Richter 『Flegeljahre』. He expresses personalities of each characters' personalities and conflicts between people by using rhythm, harmony and beautiful sounds.
And he used counterpoint when the character reappear or when they have same personalities.
he also made fictions characters like Eusebius and Florestan in his music to represent his different faces as he worked as an art critic writing 'Neue Zeitschrift fur Muzik'.
For one thing, the conflict between people in fantasy and reality in one of Hoffman's novel『Kater Murr』is represented in Schumann's piece 《Kreislreriana, op.16》as a contrast of Eusebius and Florestan. he quoted poem or the title of other's literrature to express his poetic inspiration, and translates into terms of tone the feeling of his love about his lover Clara.
Another thing is that he changes the name oh place or people into music tone and made his own pieces like 《Abegg Variation, Op.1》,《Carnival, Op.9》.
