김창열의 ‘물방울’ 그림에 담긴 실제와 관념의 통찰

국문 초록 (Abstract)

김창열은 전후 한국현대미술 제1세대로서, 한국, 뉴욕, 파리를 횡단하며 ‘물방울’ 화가로 세계적인 명성을 쌓으며 한국미술의 국제적 성장에 기여한 작가다. 본 연구는 김창열의 ‘물방울’ 그림에 나타나는 물방울의 재현성과 개념적 기호로서의 매개성에 주목하고, 현실과 관념의 통찰을 유도한 조형적, 미학적 특성을 살펴보기 위한 시도이다. 이를 위해 2장에서는 김창열의 예술 매체의 핵심인 ‘물방울’의 조형적 성립과정과 그 배경을 살펴보고, 3장에서는 <물방울> 연작에서 물방울의 이상적인 형상과 지지체의 현상학적 공간감을 통해 물리적 실제를 넘어 노장사상과 불교 원리에 닿는 물방울의 정신적 작용의 실체를 고찰하고, 4장에서는 <회귀> 연작에서 동양정신으로의 회귀와 우주의 근본 이치를 관통하는 미의식의 특성을 파악한다. 김창열의 ‘물방울’ 그림은 실제와 정신을 아우르는 자율성을 지니고, 극사실주의와 초현실주의, 구상과 추상의 경계를 뛰어넘는 독자적인 언어이자, 독립된 장르로서의 위상을 지닌다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is an attempt to examine the formative and aesthetic characteristics that led to insight into reality and ideas, paying attention to the reproducibility and the mediating nature as a conceptual symbol of water in Kim Tschang-Yeul"s "water drops" painting. To this end, Chapter 2 examined the formative process and background of his art media, Chapter 3 examined the ideal shape of water drops and the phenomenological spatiality of supporters through "water drops" series, and Chapter 4 examined the fundamental nature of regression and the aesthetic of the universe through "Recurrence" series. His "Water drops" painting has a status as an independent genre and language that transcends the boundaries of hyperrealism and surrealism, ideas and abstractions, and has autonomy that encompasses reality and spirit.
